Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) Cleaning Do's and Don'ts:
- DO wipe up spills promptly. If the spill stains your floor, you can use baking soda. Make a paste with water and let it sit on the stain for a few minutes. Repeat if necessary.
- DO regularly clean your floors. NEVER use an ammonia based cleaning solution as it will cause the LVT to crack. NEVER steam clean your vinyl flooring. The heat may cause your floors to warp. Use a neutral-PH cleanser and make sure to rinse well. Remember, one of the attributes of LVT is that water will not damage the floors. However, this does NOT mean you can drench the floors in water.
- DO use apple cider vinegar to clean your floors. It’s gentle enough to not damage to your floor, but strong enough to remove built up dirt and grime. Just remember to dilute it with one cup of vinegar per gallon of hot water, and rinse the mop frequently while cleaning.
- DO use a walk-off mat inside entranceways to assist in the removal of dust, dirt, snow, salt and water from bottoms of shoes when entering. Tracking these items onto your flooring can damage them.
- DO NOT place walk-off mats on top of a wet floor surface. This may cause a stain.
- Do NOT use a string mop, use instead a microfiber mop. A string mop will apply too much water at a time.
- Do NOT use cleaners or products intended to add shine to your LVT floors. These can cause a buildup of product that will actually attract dirt and end up dulling the overall sheen.
- When moving furniture around your home, LIFT it, do NOT push, pull or drag it across your beautiful LVT flooring. You should also invest in floor protectors for all your heavy furniture.
