Don’t use any other company for something as important as your floors!

Maintaining commercial vinyl composed tile (VCT) floors requires a consistent routine to keep them looking their best and prevent premature wear. Here’s a breakdown of the key steps:

Daily Maintenance

1) Remove loose dirt and debris:

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly, focusing on high-traffic areas.
  • Use a soft-bristled broom or a vacuum with a floor brush attachment to avoid scratching the tiles.

2) Damp mop for general cleaning:

  • Use a neutral pH cleaner diluted in warm water, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and detergents, as they can damage the finish.
  • Change the mop head frequently to prevent spreading dirt.

3) Address spills promptly:

  • Blot up liquid spills immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth.
  • For sticky spills, use a mild cleaning solution and avoid scrubbing.
Restorative Maintenance (As Needed)
1) Strip and re-wax the floor:
  • This is a more intensive process that should be done every year, depending on the level of traffic.
  • It involves removing the old wax and dirt build-up, then applying a new layer of wax.
  • This should be done by a professional cleaning company, like Quality Care Cleaning.
Additional Tips
  • Place mats at entrances to trap dirt and debris before it gets tracked onto the floor.
  • Use protective mats under furniture to prevent scratches and indentations.
  • Avoid using sharp objects or abrasive materials on the floor, as they can scratch the tiles.
  • Regularly inspect the floor for cracks or damage and repair them promptly to prevent further deterioration.

By following these tips, you can keep your commercial VCT floors looking beautiful and functional for years to come.
How should I care for my VCT on a daily basis?
  • Sweeping and dust mopping your VCT should be done on a regular basis. Wet mopping your floors should be done daily.

How often should I get my VCT flooring professionally serviced?
  • If you are actively maintaining your floors, then an annual professional strip & wax would suffice. If not, then your VCT floors should be professionally serviced every 6-9 months to maintain the life of the floor. If you notice your floors starting to yellow, it may be time to get them professionally cleaned.

How long will my VCT floors last?
  • If these maintenance techniques are followed , your flooring can last a minimum of  15 – 20 years.
